Support Our Work

Our mission is to foster research that advances basic knowledge of gender inequality and gender equity in STEMM careers, and that supports the efforts of employers and policy makers to create more equitable and productive workplaces. We invite your participation and support.

Mary Blair-Loy is an internationally known sociologist who studies how gender shapes careers in business, science and technology, and law. She also studies how an organizational culture of work devotion can affect the advancement of women and involved parents and reduce the effectiveness of family-friendly programs. Her award-winning book, Competing Devotions: Career and Family among Women Executives (2003, Harvard), focuses on these issues for executive women, while a new study addresses these issues among executive men.

Center affiliates have expertise in more than ten separate scholarly disciplines and conduct research on the professions of science, technology, and engineering; medicine; business; academia; law; and architecture. Others conduct comparative research across professions and across societies.

We invite gifts of any amount. Mary Blair-Loy would be happy to discuss these giving opportunities with you (blair-loy@ucsd.edu or 858-534-4563).
